Boğaziçi Üniversitesi.
Reorganising a university’s information for different audiences.
We reconsidered Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’s extensive digital content for students, academics, prospective students and visitors. Information architecture and an academic directory came together in an interface that was unusually clear and distinctive for its time.

Need.
A university website serves students, academics, applicants and visitors with different needs. Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’s academic and administrative content needed an open structure that could support all of them.
The academic staff directory was a key part of the project. People, departments and publications had to be easy to find within a large body of data.

Design approach.
We first organised content by audience, creating meaningful entry points for students, academics, applicants and visitors. A shared navigation structure connected the many pages and content types.
Search, staff lists, profiles and publications formed a connected directory flow. News, galleries, campus information and text-heavy corporate pages used layouts suited to their content while retaining the same visual system.
Our partner Sibername had clear goals and high expectations for design quality. The project developed through numerous alternatives and detailed design rounds. Pars Design worked throughout with Sibername, rather than directly with the university, and handled the design scope.

The work.
The resulting website presented a broad information landscape with order and a distinctive visual character. Audience-based structure, a searchable staff directory and profiles connecting publication information were particularly progressive aspects of the work.
The design was implemented and used for many years. It does not represent Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’s current website, but remains an important period project showing how complex academic content can become a clear digital system.
